At a party I recently attended, I was accosted by a “proud apostate” (someone who no longer believes in God) and his “feminist” wife. Their question to me when I announced I was a servant of Christ was: “Why is God cruel”? Their answer, even with no amount of convincing from me, was this:
Husband – it is all a scam, he doesn’t exist. All of them, Catholics, Buddhists everyone are believing a scam.
Wife – The bible is outdated. I don’t understand this cruel God. He calls women “harlots”.
Not unlike these two, there are atheists and agnostics who argue that the God who is presented in the Bible is cruel. For example, the online Skeptics Annotated Bible has over 200 biblical passages that, they claim, demonstrate that God is cruel!
